Attractive Laptop, May 20, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: ASUS A73E-AS31 17.3-Inch Laptop (Mocha) (Personal Computers) These are all early observations, since the PC only recently arrived.
First impression was slightly disappointing. The mocha color is very dark brown, almost black. It isn't as distinctive looking as I had imagined. The case, however, is textured aluminum, obviously designed to be rugged as well as handsome.
The next impression was very favorable. The screen is very bright, clear, and easy to read. Colors seem to be accurate without any adjustment. While the screen is shiny, it is not a mirror like so many laptops these days, more like a typical LCD TV screen.
The unit is heavy, but I don't think anyone buys a 17" laptop for extreme portability.
Everything works flawlessly. The keyboard is comfortable for typing, and the touchpad seems very precise in interpreting finger movements.
The sound from the built-in speakers is amazing when bass and surround are set to maximum. Not quite hi-fi but good for listening to music while... Read more

Solid choice for a 'bugdet' laptop with a high quality screen, and large hard drive; feels very light, July 1, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: ASUS A73E-AS31 17.3-Inch Laptop (Mocha) (Personal Computers) This is my first Asus computer. I started to consider it because I perfer 17 inch laptops and I wanted a high capacity hard drive. Then budget and warranty came into play and overall specs. Obviously this is not an ultrabook, and even then the supplied RAM is a little on the small side compared to most notebooks selling nowadays. But depending upon your needs the smallish RAM may be no concern at all.
I don't spend much time gaming on the computer. I still have need for a laptop for Office tasks, connecting with work from time to time, storage, disk drive, and media consumption. What I really wanted this go around was a large capacity hard drive. 750GB fit the bill. I also wanted a good quality screen for viewing videos, Netflix, Hulu, etc. From past experience RAM was not that important. Looking at the choices on Amazon the Asus seemed to be the best overall choice for me.

This is my first laptop. While not as powerful as my desktop I find it more than adequete and at a very reaonable price. Battery power is approx. 6 hours. I reccomend it although it is a bit on the heavy side but I wanted a larger screen as I'm used to a 24" on my desktop.
