A snarling beast of a laptop, with just a few quirks, May 17, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Samsung Series 7 NP700G7C-S01US 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers) EDIT 1: A reader of this review pointed out to me that Intel's Ivy Bridge tech uses dual-channel RAM. CPUID was reading the RAM at 800 MHz, but in reality it is 800 MHz x 2, so the RAM in this laptop is actually 1600 MHz. Sweet! Thanks, Roy!
EDIT 2: I'm currently playing Max Payne 3, and this machine handles it wonderfully. I'm running it in DX11, all settings on "Max" (pun intended ;-) ), with FSAA, HDAO, and 4x AA; at 1920 x 1080 I'm consistently hitting 30-40 FPS (V-Sync is off, because switching it on turns the frame rate into syrup-dipped glue). This is a huge relief since the original Recommended Specs from the publisher were ridiculously over the moon (hexacore processor, 3GB VRAM). After the backlash over those specs, Rockstar backed off and said those were the specs of the best system they tested it on, but did... Read more

I was worried about the over heating issues with ivy bridge but from I seem to be experiencing it seems to run very cool even on gaming mode. :)
the only downside is the power adapter is a 200w brick. it's big and heavy (about 5 lbs)
Very happy with my purchase and never regretted buying it.

Purchased this system as a Grad student for both college and play.
Screen
The screen is a beautiful HD 1920 X 1080 Resolution screen. I've never seen anything like this; not even on a television. It is a retina scorching 400 nits with superb contrast and very deep blacks.
Sound
Dolby home theater surround sound. System sounds lifelike and has a built in sub-woofer. I'm very pleased with the sound quality all though I think the JBL sound system on the new regular 17.3" Samsung series 7 sounds better.
Keyboard
Most comfortable keyboard I've ever used. The keyboard slopes back to accommodate wrists and sys cooling. The keys are a curved style like Lenovo's laptops. Very ergonomic. White backlighting; "WASD" keys light red in "gamer mode."
Performance
